Beauty & make up tips

As some of you know, I love make up and beauty. I even trained as a make up artist this year which I’ve wanted to do for quite a while. I love make up and I want to go freelance and do it as well as performing and also do some beauty qualifications in the next few years. I’ve picked up some little tricks and tips over the years when it comes to make up and beauty and I thought I’d share some of them with you.

Multiuse make up and beauty products

I love a product that you can multiuse. And you can really multiuse a lot of products. For example, you can use a lipstick on your cheeks as blush and even on your eyelids as eyeshadow. That lovely shimmery highlighter you have, you can use it as an eyeshadow. (I love this one!) and if you’re wearing glitter but don’t have a product specificaly for applying and attaching glitter, if you have vasceline then I find that this works well for doing things like glittery eyeshadow. Something which I love to do is use my skincare on my chest area. This area is prone to ageing so in recent years I’ve started to use my serums & moisterisers on this area and I’ve noticed a change in the texture and appearence. Just experiment and see what you like and what works for you.

Put SPF on your face and body even in Autumn & Winter

Now I must admit, I was a bit of a late starter when it came to being consistant with SPF on my body. I’ve been using moisteriser with SPF for my face for quite some time now and I swear it’s made a difference to the appearence and health of my skin. In more recent years I’ve reached for a seperate SPF for my face but in a higher factor of 50 as I was only using a moisteriser with SPF 15 and 20 before, and apon researching about SPF I found out that this isn’t actually enough for you skin. I remember to put both my facial & my body SPF on daily and also in the colder months not just Spring and Summer. And I know that my skin is being well cared for and I will thank myself in later years for doing this.

Applying blusher to just the apples of the cheeks

I learned this whilst training as a make up artist, and I found that it just looks alot more natural and realistic with a lot of make up looks. Of course if you want something more bold and dramatic then feel free to go heavier with your application and placement of colour, but just think when you blush, what area goes rosy? The apple of the cheeks.

Wear primer

Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have even thought about using primer. I started to use it when I was doing an online make up buisness where I was selling skincare as well as make up, and I earned it as free gift for selling a certain amount of products. Well, since using it I havn’t looked back. It smooths out imperfections, protects the skin, makes your make up look better and last longer. It’s a non negotiable for me and it makes a big difference applying this before your make up.

Mix your foundation and moisteriser

If you want something a bit lighter and more natural for your foundation, try mixing your foundation and moisteriser together. I find it looks a lot more sheer, light, natural and dewy and I absoloutely love this look when it comes to foundation. Test an area on your face first to make sure it’s mixed ok and that the products work well together.

Let your hair air dry

I always used to blow dry my hair in my teens and early 20’s, and it used to go frizzy and really dry. I started to try air drying it in my late 20’s and I noticed such a difference in the condition of my hair. It was smoother, softer & looked so much healthier. If you can, try letting it air dry sometimes instead of blow drying it everytime. It’s made a big difference to my hair.

Use a root touch up product

I started to use a root touch up spray to cover up my roots in between hair appointments and it has made such a difference! I can go longer in between hair appointments and it covers my grey and looks completely natural. I recently started to use a hair powder as well by a brand called boldify to cover those harder to reach areas and it also works really well.

Drink more water

I’ll be the first to admit that I havn’t been drinking enough water over the years so I’ve made a consious effort more recently to drink more. I’ve noticed that my skin looks a lot clearer and just healthier and more radiant. It really does make a difference.

Double cleanse the skin

I’ve started to do this in the evenings sometimes, especially if I’ve been wearing more products on my skin. You know you’re really getting a good, deep, thorough clean and that you’re clearing everything away like make up, dirt & grime from the day etc. Obviously if you have sensitive skin like me just be careful, I tend not to double cleanse every single day but about 4 times a week is good for me.

Get more sleep

This may sound a bit silly, but I’ve learned to prioritise sleep alot more these days. Seriously, I can honestly say that 10 hours sleep does wonders for me in terms of how I feel, function and how well I look. I get those days where I don’t sleep aswell and not only do I not function or feel as well but my skin doesn’t look as half as it does when I’m rested. The saying ‘beauty sleep’ is true. Don’t be afraid to get a few extra zzzzzz in.

I hope you liked this blog. I’m going to br doing alot more beauty and make up blogs and vlogs in the near future. So if you you like these sort of blogs and vlogs then stay tuned.

Love Natalie x
